Hurricane Isaias Information

10/08/2026 - 3:00 PM CST

Students, Faculty and Staff,

The University of South Alabama will be closed on Friday, Oct. 9, due to the projected track of Hurricane Isaias and expected landfall tomorrow afternoon. University officials continue to closely monitor the storm and will coordinate with local and state emergency management officials.

The University is not located in a flood zone or within the Storm Surge Warning area issued by the National Hurricane Center, but it is recommended that cars on campus be moved to higher ground and away from trees.

For students living in campus housing who did not leave during the fall break, please be aware of the following:

  • The University is offering a complimentary JagTran shuttle to the Walmart on Schillinger until 6 p.m. today. They will depart from Miss Pawla’s Grill and continuously loop between campus and Walmart.
  • The Freestanding Emergency Department near campus on Hillcrest Rd. will close at noon Friday, and USA Health is monitoring weather conditions to determine when the facility can safely resume operations. For urgent health care needs, the USA Health Providence Hospital emergency room on Airport Blvd. is just 1.7 miles away.

Due to fall break, both the Fresh Food Company and the Student Center Food Court are closed until Monday, but the following food service is available through the weekend.

Miss Pawla’s Grill operating hours

Thursday: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Friday: 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – with an option for a to-go dinner box during the lunch period
Saturday: 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 5:30- 7:30 p.m.
Sunday: 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.-midnight

While neither Mobile or Baldwin County currently has evacuation orders in effect, you are encouraged to remain attentive to changing conditions and follow any evacuation instructions issued by local authorities.

All students remaining on campus are being advised to shelter-in-place in their residence hall as the storm passes through the region beginning Friday afternoon. Students are encouraged to have flashlights and batteries available, and staff and administrators from Housing will be monitoring conditions.

Essential personnel may be required to work during the closure, and will be informed by their supervisor accordingly.

The University will release additional information as required.
