by Nikolai Gogol is still a hilarious night of greed and
panic when a penniless, smooth-talking traveler is
mistaken by the leaders of a small provincial town as a
high-ranking secret auditor who has arrived to expose
their corruption. To cover up their crimes, the officials
shower the baffled young man with bribes, fine wine,
and flattery — and he is more than willing to play
along. This is classic Russian Farce, packed with sharp
wit, chaotic energy, and timeless physical comedy.

described as “a hard-hitting drama that examines race
in a highly conceptual, layered structure, ultimately
bringing audiences into the actors’ community to face
deep-seated prejudices.” The play begins like a normal
day on a TV sitcom — a close family gets ready for
grandma’s big birthday. Then there is a shift as familiar
stage rules get broken in a funny way until chaos
appears to take over and the audience is challenged
to think about who gets to tell stories and who gets
to watch.
