Dependent Access

All children who use the Student Recreation Center must have an active membership regardless of age, or be a guest of a member. Dependent hours for children age 15 and under are limited. During Fall and Spring semesters, children age 15 and under may only use the Student Recreation Center on Fridays after 3:00pm, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday.

In Summer semester, extra hours will be added for dependents. Refer to our current hours of operation.

All children must be directly supervised, which is defined as parents being in the same area and actively participating with the child. Children may not be left unattended. Parents should be familiar with which areas are accessible to children based on age:

  • Age 0-2: Only permitted in swimming pools. Swim diapers are required.
  • Age 3+: Permitted to use the above, plus indoor track, multi-purpose courts, indoor soccer court, table tennis, and racquetball courts.
  • Age 6+: Permitted to use the above, plus climbing wall. Children must fit in climbing shoes and a harness and be able to climb on their own.
  • Age 10+: Permitted to use the above, plus participate in SouthFit classes. If taking a Spinning® class, the child must fit on the bike.
  • Age 12+: Permitted to use the above, plus cardio machines and hot tub.
  • Age 14+: Permitted to use all areas of the SRC, including weight rooms and functional training areas.

Strollers, infant car seats, and baby carriers are only allowed on the outdoor pool deck, and only during swim lessons or dependent hours. These items are not permitted in any other area of the SRC, including the indoor track.

As defined by the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness, for the purpose of accessing the Student Recreation Center, a dependent status exists anywhere there is a parent or legal guardian/child relationship. The member may be asked to provide evidence that this relationship exists at the time s/he completes the dependent waiver form.

The dependent eligibility will terminate when the dependent reaches age 26.  At the age of 26, the dependent must have their own relationship with the university in order to purchase their own membership.
